On the Farm in Mosgeil, Dunedin, I have milked some cows!
Granted it wasn't the traditional way, still have that to try. It was with automated suckers. You had to be on constant watch for the raising of the tail and it was the luck of the draw as to what came out... mushy or solid! It is really hard graft and the people who work there get up for 5 in the morning and do the same thing twice a day with 600 cows! I am glad I only had to do one shift of it!
This past week I have really been gardening. Weeding in the chilling south westerly wind and blazing sunshine today (I think I have burnt my ear). Other duties has been the cooking! I LOVE COOKING! Twice I have coked my apple and ginger sponge cake, best served hot with ice cream. It such a change from the manky really cheap unhealthy meals I have had in the hostels. I have used heeeerrrrbbbs! Garlic! And I have had VEG!
My company has been really good with Kerry and Alan. I have chatted about cooking, rugby and films! Kerry was kind enough to take me to see a New Zealand director's latest film "The Vintner's Luck" which you can read about on my film blog. Also Alan made me watch a New Zealand film "Once were warriors" (also on my film blog).
I am back to Dunedin tomorrow to start again on the "Bottom bus" on Friday which will take me to Invercargill (another Scottish settled town). Good week in all respects!

Winding things up down under.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you've had a good week - considering what's been happening here !! Got a request from Sandra Johnston for your address so that she could at least send you a Xmas card - need to let her know that you'll be home by then !
Things are starting to calm down a little and you'll be amazed at what is evolving to help the situation. The railway is going to have a new station at Oldside (opposite Dunmail Park) with its very own 300 seater shuttle train purely to ferry folk backwards and forwards over the river. That's supposed to be up and running by Monday ! They reckon a permanent bridge will take 18 months or more to construct.
Lots of community spirit coming to the fore and Joyce's Mum Agnes had her picture in the Sun newspaper taking receipt of a big hamper of food from Asda ! Alan commented that she didn't make page 3 but she did make page 13 !!
I'm pooped working all day in the shop - don't know how your Dad does it....! but then he rests when we come home and I get on with the tea etc., !!!!
Love you. XX
